EQUANIMITY. By: Feezah Writes.

Aggressive knocking on the door. My heart races. It must be him. Who other than the ruthless beast? After I kicked his genitals and poured the water I was boiling for eba on him, he has to be the one! But what else would I have done? After giving me today’s daily dose of incessant pounding coupled with spitting in my face and peeing in my mouth, he still wanted to get lucky. The dirty bastard wanted to do the thing that adults do! Screw ‘for better for worse’. He had done his worst and I’m having no more of it! I reach into the fridge in our daughter’s bedroom and grab what is left of the tub of ice cream she had when her boyfriend broke up with her yesterday. I find the spoon we use for okro and I grab that too. I sit on the bed and dig in. My therapist always tells me to maintain equanimity. I’m doing just that. Soji is going to break down this door and kill me. I know there’s no way I’ll escape death today, but I’ll wait to die doing what I love.

I’ll die drowning my sorrows in a tub of ice cream.
